Cat inflammation: Are prednisone side effects like diabetes permanent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

Hello, My cat has never taken prednisone before, I am afraid of the side effects, I even heard of cats becoming diabetic from them. My two cats have inflammation from possible uri, could that inflammation go away without steriods possibly? What are the side effects of prednisone and albuertol syrup and can they cause permanent effects if used?

Steroids given at appropriate anti-inflammatory dosages do not give permanent and irreversible side effects (no diabetes anyway), so they can be safely given. The appropriate treatment for URI would depend on the underlying cause.
