Hello. I was petting my Yorke and noticed a small round scab on his tummy. Originally I thought it was a mole since it’s not raised and really has no texture but on closer inspection it’s definitely a scab. He does not seem bothered by it but still quite concerning.

Hi and thanks for providing the picture of the scab. There is a bigger elevated area around the scab as a small collection of fluid ( a vescicle). This is often due to an allergic reaction of the skin. For example insect bites can often cause that. If the scab do not resolve in the next week time a check up may be best to determine exactly the underlying cause and have it treated. Some anti-inflammatory ointment (steroid base) can be used to trying to decrease the swelling.

In this case a picture of the problem is essential to be able to give you specific answers. Given your description of the signs this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Generally speaking, a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any).
