My dog bit a nasal decongestant spray. Is he okay if no symptoms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | neutered | 33 lbs

My dog bit into a nasal decongestant spray earlier. He’s been for a walk since, eaten kibble, and we’ve been monitoring him for any symptoms. Heart rate is 66bpm. He’s a standard labradoodle, 6 months and just under 15kg. Found the bottle earlier with two little pin pricks underneath it from his teeth. Parents didn’t want to take him to vet so I’m watching him. Just wanted some advice. He has no symptoms. Sleeping at the moment.

As long as he is asymptomatic, there is no cause for concern. Monitor for lethargy, restlessness, hyperactivity, panting, increased heart rate or tremors. Symptoms typically appear within an hour or two of ingestion or exposure. See your veterinarian or take Monty to the nearest veterinary ER if necessary.
