My dog has a loose tooth but no pain. Does he need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Male | neutered | 10 years old | 12 lbs

My dogs tooth seems to have ripped out, it is still attached well but facing upwards causing his lip to stick out. He does not seem to be in any pain currently, should I go to emergency vet or can I wait to bring him in the morning if he is fine and sleeping??? Thank you

Poor Peanut! He definitely does need to have this checked out by a vet, since it sounds like he'll likely need to have the affected tooth extracted and the area checked to make sure he doesn't have a broken root still stuck in the tooth socket. But if he seems comfortable right now and isn't overly painful, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow and see your regular veterinarian rather than going to an ER tonight.
