Should I worry if my 2-week-old puppy is the smallest and skinny?

Hello so in about to get my puppy next month he is currently with the breeder and the breeder sent a picture of him to me and I've noticed compared to his littermates, he is the smallest one and I'm not sure if he's skinny ?and that I would just like to know if he looks okay for his age (2 weeks) or is normal

Bear does look quite small in the picture, and I'm concerned about the shape of his head. It doesn't look normal. I can't say for certain from a picture, but he doesn't look ok to me. I think he needs to get checked out by a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Morning I'm concerned my 11 month old English Bulldog is too skinny, i don't know his exact weight but estimate around 18KG. He eats two cups of dried food twice a day, plus the odd treat. He has leisurely activity (walks once a day for 30-60 mins)
Pictures can be very deceiving and i recommend you use a body condition scoring chart (there are many versions online) to help assess and ask your vet nurse if you are unsure. Although he does not appear unhealthy, he is quite narrow across his back and core muscles. Be sure to maintain him on a good quality puppy food until 15mintgs and consider an assessment by a physiotherapist to ensure there are no underlying causes and to advise on suitable exercise. A chiropractic assessment may also be worthwhile to see if there are any issues preventing him from developing

Hi I have a puppy we got last night. He is very skinny and he is walking on his back paw kind of curled up or folded over. Sometime he walks normal.
When puppies have limb deformities or difficulties walking normally, I'm always concerned that there could be growth issues. These can be due to nutritional deficiencies, trauma, or hereditary bone or joint problems passed on by the parents. Since you've stated that he's very skinny, I'm especially concerned about his nutrition. King needs to see a vet, not just for this problem but because he needs to start getting routine vaccinations and anti-parasite medications. My puppy is too skinny I barely see him eat and if he eats it’s very little quantity of food. I am worried for his well being, what can I do?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Thank you for posting pictures, these are helpful! Rocky is very thin, and you are right to be concerned. He should not be this thin. I would be very worried about some underlying disease condition that is preventing him from either being able to eat the food, or from being able to absorb the food. Possible causes are GI parasites (worms, giardia, coccidia, etc.), exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), other GI absorbtive disorders (IBD, GI lymphoma, etc.), partial obstruction or foreign object in the gut, persistent right aortic arch or hiatal hernia causing vomiting/regurgitation, food allergies, etc. I would try feeding him boiled rice with boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts, as well as a high quality canned puppy food. I would also strongly recommend getting him to a vet where I would discuss a fecal test, a deworming trial, x-rays or preferably ultrasound, testing for EPI depending on the quality of his feces, and x-rays of the c

Hi I found a puppy 2 days ago and I'm not sure of the breed or age I want to keep him but but I want to make sure that it's a good ideal cause he looks a little on the bad side.
He looks pretty cute! It's hard to guess a puppy's breed from a couple pictures. It does look like he needs some care. His big belly may be caused by intestinal parasites, and he may have an infection or mange on his face (I can't see clearly). His coat is a little dull, but I am sure that would be a glossy brown after a few weeks of a good puppy food and a bath. I would recommend that you take him to the vet for a good checkup. They can test him for intestinal parasites and check for mange. They can also get him started on proper vaccinations to protect him against common puppy diseases.

My 2 week old puppy won't eat. She is very skinny and keeps crying. I tried feeding her milk, but she won't take it.
If this pup is really two weeks old, and won't suck from the bottle or suck from mom, she may be very ill and needs to see a veterinarian right away. She may have some kind of infectious disease which requires testing and treatment for her to get better. She looks dehydrated in this picture, and that happens very quickly when puppies stop nursing. Please seek help as soon as possible.

This is hard to answer without photos of the puppy, but if you have concerns about the health of the puppy I would inquire if the breeder is willing to take this puppy to his local vet to have him examined and then request a copy of the medical records from that visit. That is unfortunately the only way you will be able to know that kitty is healthy enough for adoption. You can also ask that the vet test Naughty for intesitnal parasites. Intestinal parasites are the most common cause of low weight in puppies. There really is no other reason for an underweight puppy except for malnutrition (not feeding enough food), which the breeder should know not to do. If the puppy is just small (runt) but considered to be a normal body weight (Body condition score) by the vet, then there are no major concerns with adoption Naughty. Keeping all these things in mind you should be able to come to an informed decision on whether to adopt this puppy or not. A good breeder would know to feed the pup

This may be normal for the puppy, or could indicate that it has hydrocephalus, which is common in Chihuahuas. I would recommend that you have Lil Boy checked out by a vet, who may be able to tell you if his head is normal or not, as well as check for other congenital abnormalities. I just got my puppy he’s skinny to where we can feel his bones, what can be recommended for weight gain?
First you want to make sure that Teddy is parasite free as parasites will rob his body of nutrients. Secondly, some breeds are naturally thin at his age. When he goes in for his next veterinary visit, make sure to ask the doctor about his weight. Lastly, don’t be in a hurry to put weight on Teddy. Rapid changes in body condition are not good. Instead feed a high-quality, small breed puppy food. Brands like Royal Canin and Science Diet have additional calories in their small breed formula which is different than a normal puppy food. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bear. It sounds like he needs to see his veterinarian especially if it has gone on long enough for him to lose weight. Deworming is a good start, but he will likely need a thorough work up. If he has a history of eating toys, he could have an intestinal obstruction. This typically makes the dog extremely ill, but I have seen some chronic cases where the dog presents for weight loss. He should also be evaluated to see if he has a swallowing disorder. Does he ever vomit or regurgitate his food or water? Lastly, he could have a food allergy or intolerance. A diet change may be in order. His veterinarian will prioritize these things for you based his exam findings. In the meantime, encourage him to eat and drink as you have been doing. I hope this information helps!
