My cat has epilepsy. How can I reduce seizures without medication?

My cat was diagnosed with epilepsy about a year ago and was having seizures every 3 months or so. Now he had a seizure on 12/27 (which was about normal timing) and again on 1/15. His vet wants to start medication if they are more frequent that every 2 months. Should I make an appointment for medication or is there anything I can do to lessen the possibility of seizures? He’s only 3 years old so I really don’t want to start medication already since it will be lifelong. Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 11 lbs
