My cat has a red, rough, hairless spot near his ear. What is it?

What is this mark on my cat? It’s red and there is no fur in that area. When I run my hand over it it feels kind of rough. He seems to be a bit tired but that could be from me running around trying to take a picture of it. It is also quite dark. I am not sure if this may just be a scratch

It actually looks like Toby has been scratching himself in that area, and since it's near the ear, that could suggest an issue with his ear such as an ear infection. I do think it's best to get his ear checked out by a vet. Give his vet a call in the morning to make him an appointment. Best of luck.

I just noticed a small bald spot under my cats eye. It’s looks like 2 pieces of small grain rice attached and tips have red looks like blood and one is rough like a scab.

My cat is male and getting old he has a red scab next to his ear the side of his head it has no fur on it and is red and the skin around it looks sore
It's very likely that he has done it to himself by scratching his ear, which usually happens when a cat has an ear infection. you need to take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, he will probably need an antibiotic ear drops.

Toby has red spot on back side of his ear what could be that.
This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Toby regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or Apoquel in order to stop the allergy.

The hair in the photographed area was gone one morning a couple nights ago and that red mark appeared at the same time. This morning the red marks became more red so I thought I'd seek advice, what has happened and is my cat alright?
It looks like scabbing may be on Wizard's head. This can be from irritation from his ear or even eye. If he is trying to rub or scratch one or the other he can be getting this spot. I would recommend a visit to the veterinarian to have his eye, ear and skin in the area evaluated. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

It looks as if Jack has been licking this spot, meaning it is probably irritating him. It could be from an old wound, a bacterial infection (called a "hot spot"), or even a mite infestation. Unfortunately, when cats groom sore areas they often become more irritated and take longer to heal. If you can, place a cone collar on him or a kitty t-shirt over the area to cover it. I would recommend having it looked at by a vet just to make sure it does not require additional treatment such as antibiotics or medication for mites.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Xiaoqi. Some cats will have abrasions to this area if they have been scratching at their ears. Have you noticed him doing this or shaking his head? If so, he may have an ear infection. You can also check the ears for redness or a waxy build up. If you notice these signs, then he will need to see a veterinarian. If not, monitor the red area closely. It should resolve within a few days. If not or the red spot gets larger, he will need to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. It looks like he just has a small scratch/scab in this picture. If he is scratching or rubbing his ears a lot he may have an ear infection which would warrant a vet visit.

Hi there! There are a few things this could be including, primary dermatological problem, trauma (especially if you have another cat in the house that could have swatted Hugo and scratched his face), or potentially tooth related. I would recommend having the area evaluated by a veterinarian for diagnostics like skin scrape for skin problems, clip/clean if trauma, and an oral exam/oral x-rays to identify a tooth related problem. Another option would be to continue to monitor the area. Any changes such as spreading hair loss, swelling, drainage, or if Hugo becomes bothered by the lesion he definitely needs to be seen by a veterinarian. I think it is worth going ahead and taking him in so that things do not progress. Hope this helps!

This may be a bacterial or yeast infection on the ear margins and spreading. You can keep it clean with warm soap and water, just be careful to not get it in her ear, and rub a small, thin amount of Neosporin to the area. If it does not improve then she needs to be seen by your vet on Monday

Hi! My 2 yr. cat Oliver has a round scab just inside his ear on his head. It's not red or anything it's odd that it looks like a hole. A bite maybe? He acts fine. He's indoor only. Should I be concerned at all?
That does look suspicious for a bite though it could also be a scab for many reasons. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian if there is a chance he got in a fight. Bites often turn into abscesses and giving him an antibiotic as soon as you see the wounds can help prevent that. I hope this helps.
