What causes a cat's eye to suddenly become cloudy and painful?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 9 lbs

Cat has cloudy part near the bottom of her eye. It seems to be effecting her pupil as well. We are going to take her to the vet when it opens but any idea what this might be? She seems bothered and has been hissing at her sister. We take pics and videos of her regularly. This seems to have happened pretty abruptly

Hello. It sounds like an inflammatory process in the eye called uveitis. You are doing the best thing for her by having this looked at quickly. Usually with proper treatment, these will clear up pretty quickly. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
