What causes a cat's eye to suddenly become cloudy and painful?

Cat has cloudy part near the bottom of her eye. It seems to be effecting her pupil as well. We are going to take her to the vet when it opens but any idea what this might be? She seems bothered and has been hissing at her sister. We take pics and videos of her regularly. This seems to have happened pretty abruptly. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 9 lbs
