My cat has an open sore on his nose. Should I worry about infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

I noticed this morning that my cat has this open sore on his nose. I have no where it came from, it doesn't seem like he got cut by anything or scratched. He is eating so he doesn't seem too hurt, but he keeps licking a lot at it. Should I be worried it'll get infected?

Ouch, poor Obi! Yes I would be concerned about infection since he keeps licking it a lot. Do not put anything on it, as he will just lick it off. I would keep an eye on it and if it does appear infected, have him seen by a vet for antibiotics. You can gently clean with warm water and antiseptic soap but don't get any water in his nose. I hope this helps!
