My cat ate ribbon and vomited it. Will she be okay after throwing up?

My cat at three short pieces of curled ribbon. She threw up all three pieces and has used the litter since and has eaten some treats. Should she be ok if she vomited everything up?

Yes, Bits should be ok if she vomited everything up. I would just keep a close eye on her today to be safe. If she keeps vomiting, stops eating, vomits her food, stops drinking water, vomits water, or becomes very lethargic, she is not ok and she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Once he threw up the balloon and the entire length of string, he should be fine. The offending foreign body has left his gastrointestinal system. However you should really check your house for any more items like that including string, as a linear foreign body (string causing an intestinal blockage) is a serious problem and would need surgery to remove. So since your kitty regurgitated the entire string and balloon he should be okay.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Tatum! The vomiting could be from residual irritation from the ribbon or there could be more ribbon that is causing an obstruction. It is also possible it is completely unrelated to the ribbon in general: intestinal parasites, hair ball, ate something else gross (plant, etc), pancreatitis, food allergy/intolerance, reaction to a new food/treat/table food. You can continue to watch him but if he continues to vomit or stops eating that is an emergency and he needs to see a vet for an exam and an X-ray to check for a blockage. I wish you the best!

Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could have been due to a partial obstruction. If she vomited all the obstructing material (string) then she may be ok. However, if she continues to vomit, this may be due to an obstruction and further therapy may be needed. If the issue continues, I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is possible that this was causing her an obstruction and now she has thrown it up and defecated some of it and has thankfully relieved her obstruction. That is good as surgery is needed in most cases as they are not able to pass it or throw it up on their own. You can continue to monitor her for signs of an on-going obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal pain, inappetence or lethargy and if observed, have her examined then as soon as possible as that may represent an emergency. Otherwise, if she is back to her normal self and no more symptoms show, she may be ok. Good luck!

Poor Lota! This fabric craft ball could have been causing her vomiting, as it wouldn't be easy for her to pass through her GI system. Given that she is acting normal, I would continue to monitor for her now. You can feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple days, then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she starts vomiting again, becomes anorexic, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, I would have Lota seen by a vet immediately.

Yes, this would not be uncommon but I would continue to monitor for any additional vomiting and for normal bowel motions for the next few days as a precaution in case not all was vomited up. Objects can stay in the stomach for months and do not always cause clinical signs (these are mostly related to actual obstruction of the GI tract so many small objects do not cause significant pain or vomiting if food can move around them)

My cat was vomiting and something inedible came up. Should I still be worried?
If she stops eating or continues to vomit, there is cause for concern. Ideally, she should be physically examined by your veterinarian. Abdominal x-rays can be done to make sure no other foreign bodies remain in her stomach and that she isn't obstructed. If this is not possible, consider a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. If she still vomits after this, a veterinary visit is strongly recommended.

My cat vomited a piece of kitchen towel, she might fulled out from the trashcan and swallow. I feed her small amount of canned food she seems eating okay... she ate all, but i worry about her digest. Thank you
I'm glad to hear that she vomited the towel up! My concern is that there is other towel material or other foreign material that she ingested in the trash can. I'm glad that she seems to be eating normally now, but if she vomits or refuses her food at any point, take her to the vet. They will be able to perform an exam and abdominal x-rays to try to rule out the presence of more foreign material causing an obstruction in her stomach and/or intestines.

Hello, my cat threw up what seemed to look like food today at 6:00AM about 10 minutes ago she drank water (had not eaten) and about 5 minutes after she drank the water she threw up excessively. What can I do to help?
So Cleo may have gotten into something that upset her tummy, or she may have eaten a string or something more serious. If she continues vomiting throughout the day, she needs to see a vet right away. If it just seems to be the vomiting this morning that goes away after a couple of hours and she is acting normally, she is likely fine.
