My senior cat has a soft white neck bump. Is it a skin tag or serious?

my cat is 8 yrs old and has a white bump protruding from the neck area, its as big as a pencil eraser and its white in color and soft to the touch. it doesnt irritate my cat much but she has sratched at it a few times and irritated the bump'. should i be worried or is this just a normal skin tag in older felines? please help?

Without seeing her in person, I can't say if this is a skin tag or something more serious. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Give her vet a call to make her an appointment. Best of luck.

Hi there, Emmie could just have a benign skin tag, but any lump should be checked with fine needle aspirate (small poke into the bump to collect cells which then get checked on microscope). These hard bumps on Lucy could be cysts, benign tumors, or malignant tumors. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on them. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Lucy seen by a vet for these bumps. I would also recommend having a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis done on her. That's to check how her organs are functioning, and if there are any concerning health problems that may be underlying.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She could have an infection on or under her skin. If this is not the case, then she could have a mass that has grown. In this case, she would need a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate. The veterinarian would use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will help to diagnose the mass and determine if surgical removal is necessary. Hello, I found some kind of a small white bump/pus on the skin (back side area) of my 12 year old Siamese cat. she has no history of disease/illness, her behavior hasn't changed much. I would like to know what is it, and how to cure it?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is not possible to know what it is for sure without being able to examine it microscopically. This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. The "horn" needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take her to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Hi Lianne! From the picture, it appears to be a growth of some sorts, but because I can't see Elizabeth in person, I honestly can't say for certain. What concerns me is that you say it has gotten bigger since you first noticed it, and also her age. She is over 10 years old, and if it is a growth, at her age, there is always a chance that any growth could be malignant. In this case, I think it's very important that she gets this checked out by a vet. I'd take her into a vet first thing in the morning. I hope this helps!
