My cat is lethargic and irritable after feline leukemia shot. Normal?

Hello! My cat went to the vet today and received his feline leukemia booster shot and seems to be really lethargic and irritable now. Is this a common side effect? Yes really never irritable, but I do recall him being so after his first round of these shots. This does seem worse than I recall though!

Yes, this is normal behavior. Going to the vet is stressful for a cat, and that alone could make Momo irritable. Add in the shots, and that will contribute to being grumpy as well as lethargic. I would give him a few days, he should be back to normal by then. I hope this helps!

This can be normal! Vaccines and the trip to vet can be very tiring and stressful so it isn't uncommon for them to sleep a lot afterwards. If he isn't improved by tomorrow then yes I would recommend to take him back to the vet.

I took my cat to the vet yesterday and she revived two shots, rabies and leukemia. Today she hasn't eaten or wanted to drink anything. She's been sitting in the same spot all day. Is this normal?
No, this isn't normal behavior. While you can see a decrease in appetite and some lethargy, it's an unusual reaction to have a cat refusing to eat and drink, as well as not want to move. I would try to tempt her to eat by offering her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) or soaking her food in tuna juice. If she still refuses to eat, then I would have her seen by a vet.

Hello, Mild lethargy and change in behavior can be normal up to two days after vaccinations. This is because the immune system is working to build protective immunity and the cats are stressed about the car ride and vet trip. Signs of a serious allergic reaction to vaccines include: facial swelling, hives, vomiting, and diarrhea. Those signs would be a reason to go to the vet ER. I hope this helps. What a handsome kitty Chai is! I'm sorry to hear that he is not acting like his usual self. If he is acting unusually tired, but still eating and drinking his normal amount, urinating and defecating normally, then I think it is OK for you to watch him for a couple of days to see if he gets over it. If the lethargy continues or you see other signs of illness develop such as poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, drinking excessive amounts of water, then I would recommend taking him to see your veterinarian. My kitten had his second round of shots yesterday. He was fine when we got home (4pm). This morning he has been pretty lethargic is it normal. He had no fever yesterday when the vet took his temperature so I am assuming he does not today.
Hello and thank you for your question. I hate to hear that Covid-Max (love that name!) is not feeling well. It's possible that Max is having a vaccine reaction. These generally occur within 24 hours and can range from severe lethargy, fever, swelling of the face to collapse. He may have a fever today which is not uncommon with a vaccine reaction (though not always present). I recommend to call your veterinarian right. They may want to exam Max again to check for signs of a reaction and to treat him. Additionally, if this is a vaccine reaction, they will take precautions in the future to decrease the potential for another reaction. This may include giving him an anti-histamine before his vaccines, spreading out his vaccines or giving him a steroid. I hope this helps and that Max starts feeling better quickly! Please don't read what you find in the internet about this stuff, it will only freak you out. What you are seeing are anecdotal stories, you don't even know if the people telling them are telling the truth. It's normal to see some lethargy after vaccines, plus Simba has some stress from going to the vet. He should be back to normal in a few days. I do not think you need to worry. I hope this helps!

I am concerned as well. While a kitten can have some lethargy after receiving vaccines and deworming treatments, it's not normal for that to last more than a day or two. If she is eating and drinking normally, then you can wait until the morning to have her seen by a vet by a health check. Should she not be eating or drinking normally, then I would have her seen by an ER vet tonight.

Vaccines can make cats very sleepy and dull for a while after, especially an older cat. This should pass in a few days. However if Milo seems very poorly or doesn't improve I would visit the vet in case something else is going unrelated to the vaccines.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lily. Vaccines can result in lethargy. I would discuss this with her veterinarian at her next appointment. She may benefit from some pain medication in case she is uncomfortable after her shots. If she experiences vomiting after her vaccines, this is a sign of a reaction. Her veterinarian will need to know this information as well. Even if she is indoor only, vaccinations are necessary for her. I hope this information helps!

I took my cat to the vet yesterday for his yearly vaccines and now he is just laying around and not acting like himself?
It is possible that Smokey is experiencing a vaccine reaction they can have a fever and be lethargic for 24 hours after the injections. If it persist longer than that I would return to the vet for medication. Be sure to notify your vet of this reaction so they can premed or split up the injections in the future
