My cat's eye is swollen and squinting. Is it an injury or allergy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 9 lbs

My kitty’s eye is swollen and she keeps squinting it. We have a 4 month old kitten who likes to play with her and he tends to be too rough, so we try keeping a close eye on them and pull him away when he’s being too harsh. I’m not sure if he scratched her, but we also had a mildew problem today, so I’m wondering if she’s potentially having an allergic reaction to that. Any advice would be so appreciated! I adore her and can’t imagine anything happening to my baby! Thank you!

I see what you mean about Shai Shai's eye and I'm concerned she could have an injury to her eye from the kitten. It could be scratched. Any eye problem is a medical emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. You need to get her into a vet first thing in the morning to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
