Cat just gave birth, but still feels pregnant. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old

My cat gave birth around 6:30-6:40am it is now 8:30 she has been meowing alot when I walk to the room. But doesn't seem to be having contraction right now. She is calm and happy but purring. I will take her to the vet this afternoon if she doesn't have any more by then. I have felt her stomach and it feels like there is still one more or two. It does feel like they have moved down abit aswell as I checked her an hour ago. The kittens are still moving in her tummy. Any advice?

Hello. As long as Panther is content caring for her newborn, then there is not too much to worry about. If she does not have any more in the next 2-3 hours, then I think it would be an excellent idea to have your vet take a look, but there does not seem to be anything to panic about just yet. Panther may just be taking her time with this, & that can be perfectly normal. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
