Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | spayed | 11 years old | 58 lbs
My dog had to be put to sleep yesterday and I am having a hard time coping because after sedating her (2 doses of sedation, she seemed like she was very sedated too) when they tried to give the dose of euthanasia, they couldn’t find her vein. So after a few tries, they had us leave our living room and go outside so they could perform a “heart stick” injection to her heart. Even though I know she was sedated, why would the vet make us go outside? Is it a painful process even if the dog is sedated

They likely asked you to leave because this can be very traumatizing to owners. Dixie probably was not aware of what was happening but most owners do not want to watch a vet poke their dog in the heart with a needle. I believe they were trying to respect your comfort.
