Is my cat's lethargy normal after vet, vaccines, and Profender?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

I took my 3 year old cat to the vet today where he was treated for ear inflammation, given vaccines, and treated with Profender as a preventative. He is now acting lethargic and slow and just not really himself. I started googling and saw all kinds of horror stories about profender killing people’s cats both days and weeks after application. Is this a safe treatment and should I be worried for my cat especially with the symptoms I’m already seeing? Please help I’m so scared

Please don't read what you find in the internet about this stuff, it will only freak you out. What you are seeing are anecdotal stories, you don't even know if the people telling them are telling the truth. It's normal to see some lethargy after vaccines, plus Simba has some stress from going to the vet. He should be back to normal in a few days. I do not think you need to worry. I hope this helps!

Hello, Mild lethargy and change in behavior can be normal up to two days after vaccinations. This is because the immune system is working to build protective immunity and the cats are stressed about the car ride and vet trip. Signs of a serious allergic reaction to vaccines include: facial swelling, hives, vomiting, and diarrhea. Those signs would be a reason to go to the vet ER. I hope this helps. My kitten is 8 to 9 weeks old. Friday I took her to the vet to get dewormwd and her first shot. Today she is really tired and not wanting to do anything. Very fatigue. Concerned
I am concerned as well. While a kitten can have some lethargy after receiving vaccines and deworming treatments, it's not normal for that to last more than a day or two. If she is eating and drinking normally, then you can wait until the morning to have her seen by a vet by a health check. Should she not be eating or drinking normally, then I would have her seen by an ER vet tonight.

Hi. Noushmc had her R.C.P. shot for the second time (first time was at 8week). Today her appetite is very good as usual but she sleeps alot, she doesn't like to be hugged & I think her shot mark hurts. Should I be worried or do anything ?
I'm so sorry that Noushmc isn't feeling well. Pain at the injection site and mild lethargy are very common with vaccinations and considered normal since the vaccination is stimulating the immune system. It usually lasts 1-2 days and will resolve on its own. If Nouschmc is not eating, is vomiting or it lasts more than 2 days, I would contact your veterinarian. Good luck! My kitten had his second round of shots yesterday. He was fine when we got home (4pm). This morning he has been pretty lethargic is it normal. He had no fever yesterday when the vet took his temperature so I am assuming he does not today.
Hello and thank you for your question. I hate to hear that Covid-Max (love that name!) is not feeling well. It's possible that Max is having a vaccine reaction. These generally occur within 24 hours and can range from severe lethargy, fever, swelling of the face to collapse. He may have a fever today which is not uncommon with a vaccine reaction (though not always present). I recommend to call your veterinarian right. They may want to exam Max again to check for signs of a reaction and to treat him. Additionally, if this is a vaccine reaction, they will take precautions in the future to decrease the potential for another reaction. This may include giving him an anti-histamine before his vaccines, spreading out his vaccines or giving him a steroid. I hope this helps and that Max starts feeling better quickly! A side effect of the deworming treatment can be lethargy, which would be due to the vomiting and the movement of dead worms through Leo's intestinal system. This should pass in another 24 hours, but if it doesn't, I would have him seen by a vet for a heath check.

Hi. Poor Sunny. I know it may seem abnormal, but it is common and normal to have a patient be quiet, lethargic, hide, skip a meal, and ecen be sore and whiny after a vaccine. Some vaccines affect patients more then others. I would not worry unless Sunny starts vlmiting, having excessive lethargy, hives, swelling, or trouble breathing. I would monitor and call your veterinarian if any further signs occur.

Vaccines can make cats very sleepy and dull for a while after, especially an older cat. This should pass in a few days. However if Milo seems very poorly or doesn't improve I would visit the vet in case something else is going unrelated to the vaccines.

This is very common after vaccines. Let him be alone tonight and let him rest. I would not be concerned unless he starts vomiting, having diarrhea, has hives or a swollen face. If any of these symptoms are noticed that I would contact your vet as this is likely a vaccine reaction. Also make sure he is still eating. He may not eat tonight but his appetite should pick up by tomorrow. If he isn't starting to act more normal in the next day or two, contact your vet for an exam.

That is very unusual that he is not better and I think he should have a work up to try to figure out the cause. Your vet can run some bloodwork to rule out potential medical problems. Most cats are usually better within a few days after having a reaction to a vaccine and three weeks seems like a very long time. If your vet can't do a work-up then you should go to a different vet for a second opinion and work-up. So sorry that he is having this problem.
