My cat has a strange lump or bug under its skin. What could it be?

This may be a cuterebra. A cuterebra is basically a maggot that has burned into the skin, and the hole is so the maggot can breath. You need to take your cat into a vet asap to get this removed. I hope this helps!

I would definitely take him to the vet to have this checked. From what you say I wonder if this is a tissue reaction to a little piece of the bug left behind. It looks more like reaction and infection than a tumour, but that is always a possibility. I wouldn't let that put you off, head to the vet and see what they think.

Based on what you are describing I was initially concerned about a wolf worm as well. These will burrow deep into the tissues and cause a local inflammation and sometimes infection. Typically these need to be removed surgically by a veterinarian. I would recommend taking your cat in to see you vet. If it is not a wolf worm it may be an abscess or cyst that needs to be addressed. My kitten has been dewormed and she is now 5mths old I have felt something on the back of her spine it feels like a worm I touch it and it seems to move under my hand is this possible
A cuterebra, or bot fly larva, could be underneath the skin but typically you would see a swelling and not be able to feel the larva underneath. Maggots or fly larvae can contaminate open wounds but you would see an obvious wound with the larvae present. There are no other types of worms that could migrate beneath the skin that would be in your area. It's possible that you're feeling something in the muscle. You might want to have your vet take a look to determine what it is that you are feeling.

Although some intestinal parasites can migrate under the skin in people, this doesn't usually happen in animals. Assuming you've been using a good quality dewormer that gets tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, I doubt that what you're seeing are worms. Certainly cats do have veins under the skin, so perhaps that's what you're seeing, but I'd have to say I don't think I've seen anything that sounds exactly like what you're describing. I commend you on your efforts to get rid of the fleas and tapeworms - that must have been a nightmare! - but I think you're going to have to show these lesions to your vet for a definitive diagnosis. Alternatively, you could request a consult with us, which would allow you to post pictures, so that we can take a look.

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors (very unlikely given her age. Hello! My cat looks like a photo. What is this?
While it is difficult to tell for certain from the picture, I would strongly suspect there is an infection going on. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian to have it evaluated. It will most likely require medication to treat the infection. If there is a collection of infected fluid under the skin (abscess), that will most likely require further treatment as well. Hi, this can be a number of things. One is a cyst that has hard yellow material in it. Another is insects or maggot eggs. If your cat goes outside and it is warm where you live, an insect infestation is more likely. I would bath him and brush him out, then wash the area betadine solution, while flushing out the hole. You can get a syringe with no needle to do this. Squirt the solution into the holes and flush out any foreign material. This will also help for an abscess or cyst. Do this 3-4 times a day for 3 days. If the wound does not heal or you keep seeing the seed like things, take him to a vet. Good luck, i hope this helps!

It looks like a skin infection, it could be bacterial, fungal or parasitic. it could also be due to an allergic reaction. i recommend taking her to your vet in order to get it checked and treated as it will require prescription meds to resolve.

If it is hard a raised (try looking underneath if it is red as well) it could be an allergic reaction, an infection or possibly an autoimmune disease that is quite common in cats (EG granuloma). If this line seems to get worse or doesn't get any better within a week give or take, I would recommend having it checked by your vet, it might need medical treatment (either steroids, antibiotics or anti-fungal therapy).

I found this on my cat's back. What is it?
Hello and thanks for using Boop by Petco! It's usually nearly impossible to tell 100% what is going on with just a picture. However, that looks like it could be a couple things on Kala's back. It could be a skin infection of infected cyst. It could also be related to a parasite below the skin called a cuterebra. Finally, it could also be a skin tumor. It would be best for you to take Kala to your veterinarian to have the area examined. Your veterinarian will be able to take samples and decide on a treatment. Good luck to you and Kala!
