My 8-week-old kitten's poop has bright red blood and mucus. Help!

My 8 wk old kitten named Jazzy just pooped. It had very bright red blood. Kind of a bit of mucus. Also the first time he went in his litter box. I noticed a tiny bit of blood on his Amy’s 2 days ago. I thought he and links just played to hard. Our other cat. Please answer. I’m so worried..

It could be intestinal worms. Those are very common in kittens and could be causing the blood in Jazzy's poop. I'd take him into the vet in the morning to get this checked out, and I'd bring along a sample of his poop for the vet to exam for worms. I hope this helps!

Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens

It could be diarrhea with blood in it. Yes, bring a sample of it into a vet, and there may not be a need for a urine sample. I'd take them all into the vet. Intestinal worms are very common in kittens, and would cause blood in the poop. I hope this helps.

Blood in the stool and diarrhea could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Smoky seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as diarrhea and blood in the stool can lead to dehydration and anemia, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from Smoky to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. Good luck, and I hope he feels better soon!

Woke up to blood in my litter box. Just adopted kitten last night. Kitten seems fine cuddly and playful. When I adopted there wasn’t any blood in the box at the facility. And reason why he’s pooping/peeing with blood in it?
Well, if the blood is in the urine- I would first suspect a urinary tract infection. If the blood is in the stool- he may have an intestinal parasite such as worms or coccidia. He could also have stress induced gastroenteritis, a bacterial infection or other GI.issues. Try to watch him in the box to see if it is from a bowel movement or bloody urine so you know what you are dealing with. I suspect that it is probably in his feces. You could then start out by having him examined and a fecal sample checked. I hope you get to the bottom of the mystery!

Hello, and congratulations on Poppy! Young kittens can have things like worms that may cause diarrhea, but other factors, like a diet change or stress, could also be the culprit. Bright red blood streaks in the stool is not entirely uncommon when animals have diarrhea as they sometimes strain to push out remaining soft stool, which can burst small blood vessels in the rectum. The blood itself is probably nothing to worry about unless is continues, but Poppy should be evaluated by a vet for the diarrhea. They will check a stool sample for parasites, like worms, and give her the proper treatment. While it is unlikely that you or your family will contract parasites from Poppy, it is always best practice to wash well after playing with her and after cleaning her litterbox until she has been dewormed in order to minimize the risk of transmission. Most kittens do have worms, and need at least two deworming treatments. I recommend contacting your vet in the morning. Good luck, and I hope Popp

She has some blood in poop. What can i do?
The most common cause for this in a kitten that otherwise feels good is intestinal parasites. You can try an OTC dewormer from a petstore or take Litchi in to the vet for evaluation. Other possible causes could include a bacterial or viral infection (such as Panleukopenia), dietary intolerance, bleeding disorder, etc.

No, it is not normal for a kitten to have blood in their stool. If Fuzzball is straining to defecate or having diarrhea that can cause some blood in the stool, but it is not normal and should be evaluated by a veterinarian. One of the most common reasons for abnormal stools in kittens and puppies are intestinal parasites. This is true even if they have previously been dewormed. So, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Fuzzball to see what might be causing the blood in the stool and what should be done about it. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. My 1 month old cat male.. pooed for the first time yesterday.. his urine was dark red.. today he pooed twice the first was pink and the second was actually blood. What is his problem and what can i do?
Poor guy. It sounds like he may have a really bad urinary tract infection and now has stress colitis due to the UTI being left untreated. He needs to see your local vet for a urine test and also a fecal check to ensure he doesn’t also have intestinal parasites. If he has an uncomplicated UTI then a short course of antibiotics should be able to clear things up. I hope Jojo feed better soon. Best of luck at the vet. Take care.

There can be a lot of causes of diarrhea in kittens. Typically the most common cause is a parasitic infection but bacterial or a viral infection could also be possibilities. Rapid change of the food can also cause diarrhea. I would recommend Kitten see her veterinarian soon for an exam and fecal test to check for causes. He may need antibiotics, anti-parasitics, or other medications to help solve the diarrhea.

Theo will not use the litter box recently and stool is loose with mucus and blood in it. He has been dewormed and acts normal to me. Although he still nurses on his mom I think. She just had a new litter of two.
I would recommend having a stool sample checked by your veterinarian to ensure that your kitten does not need to be dewormed again. Oftentimes kittens need to be dewormed multiple times because of the life cycle of the worms. If the diarrhea has been present for more than 2 days he may also need antibiotics and a probiotic to help get his GI tract back to normal.
