Is my cat's red spot on her head ringworm or something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Hello, A few days ago we noticed a small red spot on the head of our three year old cat, Harlow, and we were wondering if it was anything to be worried about. Our worst fear is that it's ringworm -- the other cat in our house had ringworm a few months ago and we're worried that Harlow has it now. Does this look like early stage ringworm? If not, what else could it be? It seems to be irritating her a bit, she doesn't like it when we try to touch it. Thanks so much!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harlow. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Was she treated when the other cat had ringworm a few months ago? The standard recommendation is to treat all pets in the home. If so, it is less likely that that is the current problem. She appears to have a small scab. This can represent a wound from scratching her ears as well. I will see this in cats with an ear infection. The veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat. I hope this information helps!
