My dog ate chocolate teddy grahams and M&Ms. Should I worry?

My 8yr old king hair chihuahua-Pom mix-10lbs- ate a small bowl of chocolate teddy grahams and plain m &ms about 2 hrs ago. He seems ok but I am worried

This may not be enough to cause any problems but keep an eye on Chico for the next 24 hours as it can take up to that long for signs of chocolate toxicity to appear. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, panting, restlessness, or an increased heart rate, take him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

The effects of chocolate on a pet depends on a few factors: how big the pet is, how much they ate, and how dark the chocolate is. Poor pup! 11-12 ounces of milk chocolate in a dog this size is not likely to cause a life-threatening problem, but you might see some signs of toxicity such as restlessness, panting, and diarrhea. Chocolate toxicity can cause more severe symptoms at higher doses, such as muscle tremors, cardiac arrythmias, and seizures, but this would be uncommon at the dose your dog ingested - especially if he has vomited up some of the chocolate already. So, to answer your question - the safest option would be to take him in to see your vet, since they can give activated charcoal to help make sure that he doesn't absorb much of the chocolate and also start supportive care to prevent any problems if they feel it is warranted. If you opt not to do this, there is some risk that your dog may have some toxicity issues but in my experience the risk would be relatively low.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. While ingesting chocolate can be very dangerous to dogs, this small amount of likely milk chocolate will probably be fine. Brownie may experience some GI upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. Signs of chocolate toxicity include vomiting, hyperactivity, elevated heart rate, to more severe signs such as arrhythmias and even seizures. That being said, Brownie should be fine with that small amount of chocolate ingestion. I hope this is helpful!

My Havanese adult dog ate about 1.6 oz of Dove milk chocolate hearts. (Approximately 6-8 small hearts) He weighs about 15 pounds. Should I be concerned?
You can expect mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite). The amount is not enough to cause serious toxicity in a 15lb dog, but you should still monitor for tremors, increased heart rate, hyperactivity or seizures. Minor GI upset can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Ideally, Mojito should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Either can induce vomiting if the ingestion has happened in the last two hours, then administer activated charcoal to further inhibit absorption.

It depends how much he ate exactly, there is a fair amount of chocolate in those M&ms but he would have to eat a relatively large amount in order for it to be toxic. If in doubt or if unsure- take him to the vet in order to get an emetic injection.

So sorry to hear this happened to Lenny. Chances are he will be just fine. The chocolate that is really bad for dogs is the baker's unsweetened chocolate. I'm assuming he ate semi-sweet chocolate chips. Going under the assumption that he ate 1 ounce or less of actual chocolate chips then he is below the toxic dose. What you can expect is the following symptoms which are usually self-limiting (meaning they will go away on their own with a day or two): Vomiting Diarrhea Hypertension Hyperactivity Restlessness It the signs persist more than 48 hours then he needs to see a vet. My best guess is that you will see diarrhea as the main effect. Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to post again.

My 8 week old American bulldog puppy ingested a handful of caramel m&ms. Will she be okay?!
Since caramel m&ms are mostly sugar, there shouldn't be a risk of chocolate toxicity. It can cause her to be hyperactive for a few hours from the sugar rush, and she may have vomiting and diarrhea. If this occurs for more than a few hours, I would have her examined by a vet so she does not become dehydrated. Make sure to keep any more candy away from her, since she might start hunting for it and get into more!

Most chocolate icing contains very little actual cocoa, so I doubt that this will be enough to cause any problems - even in a very small dog like Romeo. He may have an upset stomach if he isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise he will probably be just fine. Signs of chocolate toxicity to watch for would include restlessness or hyperactivity, muscle tremors, or even seizures. If you have any concerns about how he is acting in the next 12 hours, it would be best to try and find a way to have him seen by a vet if you can.
