Dog's neck has a fluid lump after scruff injection. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 14 years and 10 months old | 19 lbs

I gave my dog his IV fluids in the scruff to his neck. It seems the fluids drained into the front of his neck though. He doesn't seem to be in distress but it has been over 2 hours and the fluid is still there. Should I be worried, will it go away on it's own or should I take him to the vet to have it drained?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Buddy. It sound like he recieved subcutaneous fluids. These are fluids given under the skin to help rehydrate a dog. Gravity can pull the fluids to different areas. They can shift after he has been laying down or sleeping as well. They should absorb naturally over the next 24 hours. If Buddy is acting normal, then you shouldn't have to worry. I hope this information helps!
