Why is my dog's belly irritated with a scab after grooming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 53 lbs

Hi, I took my dog Hunter for grooming almost a month ago. After coming home I noticed that his belly was irritated. And today I noticed a small scab. See picture. What do you think this is? What should I do? I did notice that he has been licking that area more.

It looks like a bacterial infection, maybe starting in a little spot of clipper burn, there's no way to be sure. I would clean the area with some mild soap and warm water, don't scrub too hard but try to soften and remove the crusty material, being sure to remove any trace of the soap afterward so it doesn't remain on the skin and irritate it further. Do this morning and night and if the area does not significantly improve in the next few days or gets worse, get him in to see your vet for an exam
