Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 5 years and 8 months old | 15 lbs
My dog keeps getting into the trash, eating what he finds. He’s overweight because of it (15 pounds, supposed to be 12-13), but I don’t know how to stop it because I’m a student and I’m only ever home during the evenings while my parents are home most of the day. These past few days I found him in the trash again, but he vomited and had diarrhea. I don’t think it’s anything serious, and I will call our local vet if I think it is, but I was wondering if I could give him Pepcid or Pepto Bismol

The dosage for Pepto in dogs is one teaspoon per ten pounds, so 1.5 teaspoons would work. I recommend getting a crate and putting him in it when no one is home to prevent him from getting into the trash when left supervised. Alternatively, you can shut him in a bathroom or other small room, just be sure there isn't anything in there he can reach and eat.
