Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years old | 68 lbs
My 10 year old dog - Queensland Healer was treated recently for itching episodes. He acts as if something is suddenly biting him and goes into a frantic scratching and biting at his tail. The local Vet put him on prednisolone. His last pill was 5 days ago. He still is biting at his tail (not as often but still a lot) and HE IS URINATING IN THE HOUSE AT NIGHT! He has been house broken for almost 10 years.. Not sure what is happening with him , any ideas?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding AJ. Increased urination is a common side effect of prednisone. It can take a couple of weeks for the side effects of this medication to wear off. I recommend discussing this with his veterinarian as well as why he is still biting his tail. He may have another component such as a compulsive disorder or pain that is making him bite his tail since it did not fully resolve with the course of steroids. I hope this information helps!
