My dog's paw is bleeding. Is it serious? When to call the vet?

I noticed my dogs paw bleeding today and haven’t noticed her paw like this before could it be something serious?

It looks like she may have a small abrasion or had an insect bite and licked it. Keep an eye on it and make sure it stays clean and dry. If it does not improve over the net day or two or if it gets worse, get her in to see your vet.

    Bailey is a great name. It is possible she snagged her toe nail and that cause some bleeding or she cut her paw. I would apply gentle pressure and monitor it at home. If it does not stop bleeding, has smelly discharge, or has any swelling I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for a good exam and possible medications. Hope that helps

According to the photos it looks like a mild abrasion in the central pad that is healing. For now I would just monitor unless signs of infection (redness, pus, foul smell, pain) or if any lameness present then I would suggest to contact your vet.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I recommend that you keep a clean towel on top of the wound and have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is important to make sure she is not bleeding from a wound that for example requires further local therapy with wound closure. Good luck and best wishes!

Oh no, poor Lady. If the bleeding has stopped, I'd keep an eye on it for now. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

I’m not sure how my dog got this paw injury. I noticed it yesterday. I’ve tried keeping it clean and polysporin and it doesn’t seem better. Should I go to the vet or wait until clinic hours tomorrow?
It's hard to see with all the hair, I assume I'm looking at the top of her paw and it's between two toes. This may not be a traumatic injury, it could be a place that she has licked and scratched because she had a small wound or an insect bite or other irritation between the toes. I recommend keeping it clean with a warm damp washcloth and mild soap, make sure to rinse it completely and apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to keep the skin moist and avoid cracking. I would get it seen by your vet as soon as you can but, as long as she seems otherwise fine, I don't feel this is an emergency.

It is possible he may have caught the dew claw and injured it or he may have been stung/bitten by an insect etc. Continue to monitor for any increased pain or discomfort and keep the area bathed with salted water to prevent infection

Dog has a sore on his paw near his nail
This could be a small puncture wound or abrasion your dog got outside. If he is not licking it or limping on it, just keep it clean and dry and it should heal on its own within a few days. My puppy cut her paw today and not sure if I need to take her to the vet. She cut it on a piece of glass and I washed it out with water. It stopped bleeding after a couple minutes and she is a little gimpy but is still playful. What do you think?

That looks like an insect bite that may be infected for it to have a focal light spot in the center. If she seems fine otherwise you can opt to keep an eye on it and make sure it continues to improve. If it does get bigger, if she becomes lame, acts sick, refuses to eat or starts vomiting or has diarrhea, get her in to see your vet right away as there may be something more serious going on.

From the picture, it looks like Julie may have an ingrown toenail. If the nails are not regularly clipped or worn down naturally, they can start to curl back under and grow into the pads of the toe. It can be very painful and often the dog will start to lick as a way of trying to relieve the pain. If she will let you, you can trim the nail and then evaluate the damage to the pad. Often, these pets will need oral antibiotics to clear the infection present, and depending on the damage may need additional treatments. I recommend that Julie see a vet if there is damage to the pad, or if she will not allow you to safely clip the toenail.

Hello. My account says my dog is male but she is female. She spent the weekend playing outside with another dog and her paws started bleeding. I attached pics. Is this normal or should she be seen by a vet immediately?
Poor Bella! No it's not normal that her paws started bleeding, and if it's cold and snowy where you are, it could be the ice or the salt used to melt the ice that has caused her paws to bleed. It looks like the skin has come off on certain pads like a burn, and that is likely a bit painful for her. It's not an emergency, but I would recommend having her seen by a vet for it in the morning. Tonight, you can try washing the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and bandaging the paws that the more effected. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking at the paws. Tomorrow at the vet, they may want to put her on antibiotics if they feel her paws are burned. In the future, I recommend putting Musher's Secret to protect her paws before going outside (you can buy it online) or getting her booties to wear.
