My cat won't let me remove a hair clip from her tail. What to do?

Hi, I stupidly put a hair clip on my cats tail tonight and now she won’t let me take it off. She hisses and runs away to hide when I try. Idk what to do.

Set out some food Callie really likes such as chicken (no bones or skin) or tuna in spring water in the bathroom. Wait nearby the room, and when she goes to it, quietly go in and shut the door. That will trap her in a small room to enable you to get the hair clip off. I hope this helps.

You could rub some vegetable or olive oil onto the area. Massaging the oil into the fur will help unbind the glue. Then rinse with warm water. You could also try to bathe the tail with dawn dish soap and see if that works. You could also just shave the fur with clippers to remove the glue.

Mats can also be painful to cats as well. You can try feeding her treats or canned food while you brush her so she associates it with a good thing. If you do have a lot of trouble getting them out, I think the best thing to do is have Callie seen by a vet. They can sedate her as needed, and remove the mats. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I would not pull on the hair and I would let it pass on its own. If it is just a single piece of long hair, your cat should be able to pass it on his/her own. If your cat ever becomes inappetant, vomits or has diarrhea, these may be signs of a gastrointestinal obstruction, which is a surgical emergency. It is possible the hair is attached to something else inside your cat's gastrointestinal system which could potentially cause an obstruction. If your cat is otherwise healthy and acting OK, I would simply monitor his feces for the passing of the hair. I hope this is helpful!

I got this cat at humane society an was very loveable. 3 months after we her she has become very skidish. She diesnt come to her name or kitty kitty. Cant even get her to clip her claws.
Try enticing her with toys and treats. Catnip may also work. A pheromone product such as Feliway Spray or plug in diffuser may decrease any anxiety or stress. Consider an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury if the behavior persists.

My older cat appears to have altogether stopped grooming herself. Is there anything I can do to help decrease the amount of clumpy, matted hair she has? I'm fearful to cut or shave any matted hair since I don't want to cut her skin.
Definitely don't cut! You are very likely to cut the skin if you use scissors. You can use shaving clippers or take Calico to a groomer. Once the mats are gone, you will need to brush her daily to remove loose hairs to prevent the mats from coming back. I would also recommend having Calico evaluated by her vet to see if she has arthritis preventing her from being able to groom. Medications may make her more comfortable.

You can throw a blanket or large towel over her and grab her that way, wrap her and then cut off the collar with scissors. Best get someone to help you. Your vet can also give you some acepromacine tablets you will need to crush and put in her food, preferably inside, so she cannot run off and hide and fall asleep somewhere else or get attacked by a dog while sedated. There are cat traps that you may be able to borrow from your local animal welfare organisation.

Cat got tangled up in fly strip tape, I removed it but glue left on for, what's the best way to remove the glue and will it make her sick because she's licking the glue off her fur? Please advise. Thanks Belinda
You can try olive oil or vegetable oil and rub it gently into the mat of glue on your cat's fur. Continue to rub the oil into the glue until it loosens the glue from the fur. You could also bathe her with Dawn dish soap and see if that helps. Another option is to buy a pair of clippers and shave the areas that have glue. I believe that most of the sticky fly trap papers are not toxic but you should check the packaging to confirm. It might cause some gastric upset if she licks a lot of it.

I'm glad to hear that the nail caps work well for your cat's front feet! Most cats are far more tolerant of having their front feet handled than their back feet. Since Your cat is unable to retract his toe, I do think it's worth trying to remove the glue. Walking in with his toe in an abnormal position could cause him to inadvertently injure himself. Most of these caps use some form of a super glue for attachment. If your cat will tolerate it without causing you any bodily harm, try to soak the affected area in either vegetable oil or mineral oil for a few minutes, then try to gently scrape away at the glue closest to his nail base. It's not a big deal if some of the glue remains on his nails - it will wear off eventually. You may want to try wrapping your cat's body tightly in a large towel with the foot in question left out of the wrapping. We all this a "kitty burrito" and it's often helpful for a bit of restraint. Yes, you are correct, you could accidentally cut Sophia. I've done this myself! My cat needed stitches. I felt awful. You can take her into a groomer to have them shaved out, that's the safest thing to do. You can also buy shaving razor for pets from a pet store to do it yourself. I hope this helps!

I need to know how to treat a wound / gash on my cats tail. It was bleeding this morning and he won’t let me cover it
Tails can be very difficult to keep wrapped or bandaged. Consider an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking and to allow healing. That wound in the image should be addressed by your veterinarian. Ideally, the hair around it should be clipped to prevent contamination. The wound itself should be gently cleaned. Sutures may be indicated if it is a fresh wound or deep wound. Antibiotics and pain management may also be indicated.
