Why is my dog still limping after 10 days with no pain or swelling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 62 lbs

8 yr old female pit bull...Hit her leg on the end board jumping on the bed...Has been walking on 3 legs for about 10 days now...There is no swelling and I can move it all around and touch the paw pad with no reaction...It is getting better as she pushes off it at times...My question is should a sprain or bad leg bruise take so long to heal??.Dog doesn't appear to be in pain and wants to play on 3 legs....thank you

Since her lameness has been going on for so long, I think it's a good idea to get it checked with your vet. It could be anything from a bruise to a sprain to a crack in the bone itself. It's good that it's improving, but after almost two weekks I think your vet should do an examination and x-rays if they feel they are needed. Based on these results they can tell you better what is going on and how best to treat it. It may be that she just needs rest and confinemnt to improve more quickly.
