My hamster has a growing lump. What's wrong and what should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old

My hamster has looked like this for a couple weeks. I wanted to see if it would go away on its own, because he doesn’t seem to be in any pain. But now it looks much worse than it did. Please help me. :( I need to know what’s wrong

This lump could be due to a infection, an abscess or possibly a tumor. It should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature and give you appropriate treatment options.
