My dog has an upset stomach, licking lips, and eating grass. Help!

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My dog seems to have hiccups but is also licking her lips, kicking floor & furniture and when we took her outside she's eating grass. Her tummy also feels garbled every once in a while. She has not vomited

It could be Rey is feeling a bit nauseous. Try feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If this doesn't help her symptoms, she starts vomiting, refuses to eat the diet, vomits water or stops drinking water, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, take her into a vet immediately. Your dog may have an upset tummy. These are typical signs of a gastrointestinal problem and you should have her examined by a veterinarian. You can try taking her off food for 12 hrs, then feed her boiled white rice with boiled boneless chicken in several small feeds and see if that improves her condition. Once she feels better slowly introduce her regular food again by replacing small parts of the rice and chicken with her food over a two days. If she deteriorates, starts vomiting, diarrhea or does not get better within three days, please take her to your vet for an exam.

It sounds like she experiencing nausea so she may need an anti-nausea medication, like Cerenia, an antacid, and/or a gastrointestinal protectant to help treat. It might also help to put her on a hypoallergenic diet, like z/d or d/d. You could also add a probiotic to her diet and see if that helps. If it continues than you could take her to an internal medicine specialist for an endoscopy and intestinal biopsies to get a definitive diagnosis.

It sounds like she is naseous so she really should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. She could have inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, etc. Your vet may want to try her on a gastrointestinal diet, probiotic, antacid, and anti-nausea medications to see if that helps.
