My 3 month old kitten has this weird dark area on the bridge of her nose. It almost looks as though she is losing hair there and it feels rough. I have attached a couple of photos and would appreciate some guidance on what is wrong. Thanks!

I see what you mean about the dark area on Piper Grace's nose. This could be due to something like ringworm or a skin infection. Without seeing her in person, I can't be certain what is going on, so I recommend a vet visit for her. The vet can diagnose what is causing this problem and can treat her. In the morning, give her vet a call to make her an appointment. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Your kitten is adorable! There are only really a few things that can cause this: 1) continued rubbing of the nose on something where the fur has been rubbed off 2) ring worm which is a fungal infection. It is diagnosed by culture. Antifungal medications and lyme sulfur dips are treatment. 3) a non-contagious mite called demodex. This is diagnosed on skin scrape and by examining it under a microscope. I recommend having a Vet take a look at him and see if any of the above are the cause of the hair loss. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

She could have ringworm, a skin infection, or allergic dermatitis causing the hair loss. She really needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a fungal culture to check for ringworm and then prescribe medications to treat, depending on the cause. Also, inspect her for fleas and treat her with a topical flea medication, like Revolution or Frontline.

This could be ringworm causing the baldness. Ringworm is highly contagious, so if the vet does diagnose Toast as having it, you will have to treat all the other animals in the home. Keep an eye out on yourself and your family, as it's contagious to humans. Having her seen by a vet next week is a good idea. Until then, avoid touching the area. I hope this helps.
