Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 5 years old | 8.5 lbs
5 yr old, 8 lbs, healthy & happy active poodle (who still runs a lot) whimpers when attempting to jump on our bed, something he’s done with ease all his life. He still runs, plays, and eats as usual and is only cries & whimpers, but not the ouch whimper (I’ve heard him whimper in pain before), he sounds as if he’s asking for help when he cries around our bed. When he does jump up, he doesn’t cry at all. There is hesitation. This has only been happening for a week or so. What's wrong?

Hello. Hugo is a little young for arthritis, but this does not mean he could not have gotten a muscle strain or sprain. The best you can do for him is to keep him from jumping up & down off the bed. Encourage him to learn to use a ramp or steps to go up & down, or try to anticipate his moves, & pick him up yourself. If this is a sprain, it will take 10-14 days to resolve. The more you can baby him, the sooner he will heal. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
