My Boxers have swollen jowls after moving. Is it an allergic reaction?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 65 lbs

Hi. I have 2 boxers. One male who is 7 years old and a female that is 2. We just moved from NC to FL, we’ve been here 1 month and this just happened. They’ve been fine so far. Today, both dogs jowls are extremely swollen, red and hanging out of their mouths. BOTH. Thinking an allergic reaction or a new environment allergy? They are acting fine. I gave Benadryl and it helped a lot but will come back in 24 hrs or so. Just want to make sure it’s nothing series. I will attach pictures of both dogs!

Oh wow, I see what you mean! Yes this could be an allergic reaction to something in the environment since they are in a new place. Unfortunately Benadryl often doesn't work for allergic reactions in that it doesn't cure them completely, and dogs typically need stronger drugs to cure it like steroids. Since the symptoms keep coming back, they need to see a vet to get this treated. Please take them both into a vet immediately. By the way, they both are adorable!

I just got back from a walk with my bulldog puppy and her jowl is swollen dramatically and is huge. I have given her Benadryl and it has gotten bigger. It is red too! What do I do?!
Oh my. Swelling of the jaw is extremely problematic because of the close proximity to the throat. Benadryl doesn't always work as efficiently as a steroid shot would, to control an allergic reaction. And the oral Benadryl can take several hours to work. I would recommend taking Lolla to the vet right away for a steroid injection to get this under control quickly. I hope Lolla's swollen jowl returns to normal soon.

M boxers left eye suddenly swelled nd she has broke out in hives all over, I gave two benadryl but it seeems to be getting worse,
I would take Molly into a vet immediately, it sounds like she is having a severe allergic reaction. The problem with allergic reactions is that they can cause the muzzle and face to swell, leading to difficulty breathing and respiratory distress. You have done all you can at home with the benadryl and since it's not working, she now needs stronger drugs from the vet to control the reaction. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Berkley. He may be experiencing an allergic reaction. It could be to something in his diet (even if nothing new has been introduced) or environment. If he experience severe facial swelling or difficulty breathing, then he will need to see an emergency veterinarian today. Otherwise, he should see his regular veterinarian tomorrow to determine if this is the case and if he needs treatment. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is most likely an allergic reaction. He needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is typically treated with steroids and anti-histamine medications and they do well if treated promptly. Have a good night!

All of a sudden there are bumps on my boxer. He seems to be scratching - is this an allergy to something he ate?
This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite, something he ate or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if Boost is lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

My english bulldog puppy got bit by something last night and his face swelled up like a balloon. We gave him 50 mg of Benadryl at midnight last night, and every 4 hours since. He is acting normal, still itchy it looks like, and still a little swollen
If the Benadryl was effective, I would have expected to see a reduction in the swelling by now. Sometimes allergic reactions require stronger drugs to treat such a steroids, and it sounds like this may be the cause for Moose. Because the swelling hasn't reduced and the reaction appears to be progressing, it's time to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic if your regular vet is closed; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Hi I have a boxer he's 1 years old and his face is swollen he threw up 3x today and has loose stool what could be wrong
Oh goodness! Poor Jack! As a veterinarian and fellow boxer owner I would expect that this is likely an allergic reaction to an insect sting or spider bite. Boxers are very reactive! They often have gastrointestinal signs with these reactions and usually take a few days to return to normal where as most dogs will respond within hours. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately for some steroids and possibly even epinephrine. If his face is that swollen I worry that his throat could be swollen too, which could be very serious if it gets worse. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

It looks like allergic reaction. Milo could have been bitten or stung by an insect, it might be reaction to plants or pollen but it is less likely. If Benadryl hasn't helped, you need to take your dog to your local vets to get more potent anti-allergic medication by infection.

My seven year old male boxer has bumps on face. He has allergies but these are a first.
These bumps could be a contact allergy, bacterial infection or caused by an auto-immune disease. Since Samson is already prone to allergies he may have been poking around somewhere with his mouth/face and had an allergic reaction. If the bumps do not go away within 24 hours I recommend you have your veterinarian examine Samson's mface. Samson may need some antihistamines or a steroid injection or antibiotics if this is a bacterial infection.

You're right that a swollen snout is often a sign of an allergic reaction to something. Sam may have been stung or bitten by some type of insect, or could be having an allergic reaction to something in the environment. Since the swelling did not resolve with Benadryl, I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam. If this is an allergic reaction, he will likely need injectable steroids to treat it and may also need antibiotics or other medication depending on what is found on exam.
