Hello. My dog had a wellness blood panel at end of july.Cameback normal.4 weeks later out of the blue my 6 year old dog had a seizure. She then had another the following week.I took her to vet and they reffered her to nuerologist. Saw nuerologist and they put her on keppra 375 mg 3 times a day.My question is.I was out of town having a friend watch her when this happened with seizures.Shoukd the vet taken another blood test to see if something changed from time she had original bloodwork done.

Personally I would have done another blood test to see if things had changed in the time Tysin last saw her vet, but since your friend was watching her while you were out of town, it may be the vet didn't do it because the primary owner wasn't there to give permission. You could see if the neurologist will do blood work for her, but it may not show anything. The most common cause of seizures in dogs is idiopathic, meaning there is no known cause. That could be another reason why the vet didn't do bloodwork. I hope this helps.

You should always take a dog to the vet that is having seizures. Blood testing should be done to rule out any underlying organ dysfunction that may be causing the seizures. If no underlying cause is found then there are medications that can be prescribed to help control the seizures but usually those are only prescribed if the seizures become more frequent. You know your dog best. If you are worried you should always have her to the vet.
