Dog not peeing or pooping after surgery and is very restless?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 1 year old | 80 lbs

My German sheperd, 1 yr old had his hip joint put back in place surgery Wednesday. His still has not urinated or passed a stool. He is on anxiety, pain, and muscle relaxer. He is acting very restless and the past two hours, cant get him to calm down. Im worried about the bathroom. His eating is normal and drinking

I'm also concerned that Diseal has not urinated or passed stool since Wednesday. The biggest concern of that is the not urinating. I think it's best you take him into a vet immediately to get checked out. Please take him to his vet now. Best of luck.

He should be rechecked by your vet or at the local veterinary ER today. He may be painful or still feeling the aftereffects of general anesthesia. This can last as long as 72 hours. If his bladder is full, the doctors can insert a urinary catheter if necessary to empty it. Medications can be administered or dispensed to alleviate pain which may make him comfortable. Supportive care can also be administered. SQ fluids may rehydrate him and perk him up.

My dog had cruciate ligament surgery on Tuesday has only urinated twice and not pooped yet is this normal ?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Poppy. Anesthesia slows down the gastrointestinal tract so it is not unusual for it to take a while for the dog to have bowel movement. It is worrisome that she is not urinating regularly though. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian today to determine why she is not urinating. Is she drinking normally? Could she be leaking urine on her bedding? Sometimes if a dog is painful, it will hurt to posture to urinate. So the dog will go while laying down. I hope this information helps!

If the area is too swollen for him to urinate (ie the urine cannot be evacuated through the opening prepared by the surgery), then this needs to be rechecked by your veterinarian. He could also withhold urinating due to pain, so make sure you give him the pain medication given to you for him by the vet , or get some from the vet for a few days. Any movement, including pressing to poop, probably hurts, so Ginger may try to avoid eliminating. Again, pain medicine is necessary to help him eliminate without fear and pain. Food wise, I suggest you feed him the food he is used to, do not abruptly changed his diet. If Ginger does not urinate within another 23 hrs, it is an emergency and he must be seen by the vet.

My 14 year old daschund had 8 teeth pulled on 13th July. He has not been eating or drinking since. I have put some water in his mouth with A syringe and today He got saline solution 250ml i/v. My question is how long can A dog go without urinating?
The urine output will be masdibely down if he is not drinking. As long as the bladder isnt blocked not urinating is not an issue, but the issue is why he is not urinating. He must be really dehydrated and this is bad for his organs, but especially the kidneys. I would go to your vet asap as this is not normal. He may have issues since the anaesthetic or just be really sore.

Please contact your vets office to discuss her progress as without a full history of all of her injuries and wounds, how much she ate or drank when she was in the clinic and how well she had been toileting before she went home it is impossible to guess whether this is expected or if it is a set back from how well she had been doing. Tehy may need to adjust her pain medications, or assist her either with enemas or manual expression of the bladder which would require an extended hospital stay until she is more stable or they may be able to demnostrate some handling and exercises to help support her balance and encourage her to toilet normally

You should monitor her closely, make sure she does not become lethargic, if she does not urinate by tomorrow you must take her to the emergency vet to have an ultrasound done, if she is not defecating you will need to take her to your vet on Monday.

Hello, thank you for your question. General anesthesia can decrease overall GI motility. Additionally Peluche was likely fasted before this procedure. I would not be too concerned about the lack of defecation. If he is otherwise eating, drinking, and acting ok it is fine to continue to monitor him. Things should return to normal very soon. My dog had two masses removed on Wednesday, March 11th. He will not eat his regular food or drink water. He is acting completely normal and not lethargic or anything of the sort. He is peeing and pooping just fine as well. Should I be worried?
Poor guy. The fact that he is producing urine and pooping means that he is getting something in his system. Is he getting people food instead? If he is eating some people food, try mixing the food in with his normal kibble. Or you can try another brand of dog food that is perhaps more palatable for him. Some good dog food brands to consider are: Royal Canin, Eukanuba, or Purina One. If he still doesn't want to eat his normal food after 2-4 days or starts acting abnormal or lethargic in any way, then at that point it is best to get him checked by your vet just to make sure everything is ok. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Diesel. Abnormal behavior, dry nose, lots of gut sounds, is drinking, but not eating, stools are normal. So I usually advise clients this way- if some abnormal behavior or signs persist (of course depending on their severity) for 12-24 hours, or if they worsen, or other signs develop, I would advise an immediate visit to your vet. Drinking is important as long as there is no fluid losses with vomiting/diarrhea. Not eating isn't as critical but it needs to be monitored. If Diesel won't eat tonight and then won't eat again tomorrow morning, I would advise a vet visit right away. Tonight, if other signs develop, I wouldn't wait, I would get him seen by an emergency vet if you can. Not sure if you know the signs of bloat, but this is seen in GS Dogs. Abdominal distention, dry heaving, restlessness, pain, cannot get comfortable, crying/moaning. If you notice these signs, this is an emergency and he needs to be seen immedi

My puppy just had bowel obstruction surgery 2 days ago. He is home now on pain medication but he has shown signs of pain. Panting, tongue out, moving alot. Is this normal even with the pain medication?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Nietsche. I worry that he seems so uncomfortable for you after his surgery. Pain should be well managed after surgery and it is concerning that his is not. Is he eating, drinking, urinating and defecating? I recommend having him re-evaluated by his veterinarian today. You need to be sure that he has not developed a fever, that his incision is intact and not infected and that he is comfortable when the doctor feels his belly. He may need adjustments to his medications. If not, it is best to know that he is recovering well. I hope this information helps!
