My dog has a red ring above his teeth, but gums are pink. Vet trip?

I just noticed my dog has a red tint on his mouth.. I opened his mouth and saw a red ring right above his teeth, yet his gums are pink and his teeth are white. What could this be? Does it require a trip to the vet?

I see what you mean about Spotzy and the tint. It could be a sign of damage to the gums or a sign of dental disease. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is going on with him. I do recommend getting it checked out by a vet to be safe. Give his vet a call now to make him an appointment. Best of luck.

This could be normal pigmentation in the gums. You can keep an eye on it now that your are brushing Snoopy's teeth daily. If it begins to grow or change rapidly, then he should be seen by your veterinarian.

What is this red line on rugers gums? It’s been there for about 2-3 days. His teeth aren’t dirty. He does attend daycare & share bowls. What can I do for it?
Red gums at the base of the teeth is generally a sign of inflammation of the gums or gingivitis. This is usually caused by a reaction of the gums to bacteria in the mouth. I would consider using pet oral care products and brushing his teeth to see if there are any improvements made, if not he may need a dental cleaning.

My dog has a black spot where her canine presses into her gum. Is it a discoloration or should I be freaking out!!!
I would recommend getting your vet to check this closely, it appears in the pictures that the lower canine is making contact with the gum and chronic irritation can cause inflammation, scarring and occasionally tumour changes

This spot appeared above my dogs mouth 4 days ago and doesn’t seem to be getting better. I am just wondering if this is normal or if I should have him looked at? Or should I put something on it? I doesnt seem to be bothering him or at least he hasn’t
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. It could be normal, or it could be an epulis or other mass. I think it could wait until your vet is open for non-emergent cases, but it should probably be biopsied if it doesn't regress in a few weeks.

My dog seems to have this pinkish/skin coloured part inside his mouth. It doesn’t seem to hurt him or anything. I’m curious to what it actually is, if it’s harmful or not normal.
Thank you for taking multiple pictures and circling the areas. That was very helpful. The areas that you circled are a normal part of the lips and gums called the commissures. Ace has some freckling of his mouth tissue, so he has both black and pink areas of this gums. His commissures appear a little more prominent since they are pink, but they look completely normal. Thank you for providing such good pictures. It looks like Lars has broken part of his tooth and what you are seeing is the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity is the center of the tooth where the nerves and blood supply run. The problem with having the pulp cavity exposed is that the area will be painful, and bacteria can now get into the tooth. In order to prevent infection, either the tooth needs to be extracted or a root canal needs to be performed. If your vet doesn't perform these procedures, they can refer you to a veterinary dentist who does. But have your vet evaluate Lars and give you their recommendation. I would also recommend discussing Lars' chewing habits, so you can try to figure out what caused this, so he doesn't break any other teeth. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. My dogs has red spots on his gums, belly, and one year. Could this be emergent?
Oh no. Poor Sawyer. Yes this is considered to potentially be an emergency situation. These red blotchy areas are called petechiae and this could indicate a spontaneous bleeding disorder or platelet malfunction. I would recommend taking Sawyer in to an ER vet to have blood testing done and appropriate treatment depending on blood analysis findings. Hopefully this is just a platelet abnormality and can be treated with steroids and antibiotics. My jack russels gums have small parts that are black , should i worry?
That depends. Many dogs naturally have areas of black gums. If however this is a new development or if you see other signs of disease, it could indicate a tooth infection or melanoma (a cancer). I recommend to play it safe and have Zoe examined since a physical exam is the best way to determine if this is pathological. I hope this helps.
