What flea/tick and Heartgard options are safe for my 8-week-old puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Female | unspayed

Hi, I am looking for recommendations for flea and tick prevention for a 8week old bully puppy. I’ve used the collar on an older dog but I am wandering if that is too harsh for a puppy. Also I was looking at heart guard chews And I was wondering if it would be ok for puppy even though it says dog or adult

Vii can be given Heartgard (8 weeks is an appropriate age to start) but make sure you have the appropriate sized dose for Vii's weight. For fleas and ticks I recommend a monthly chewable product such as Nexgard, which is labeled for young puppies like Vii. This is a prescription product and is available from your veterinarian. Hope this helps!
