How much to treat a stray cat with a tail injury that looks dislocated?

A cat's tail doesn't stand up. The first bone of tail looks like dislocation but she eats and is able to run. If I take her to the vet, how much would be? She is 2 years old and a stray cat.

How lovely of you to want to help Choco! The vet visit would be between $45-$55, and I imagine the vet will want to do x-rays to determine if her tail is broken which can cost a couple of hundred dollars. The vet can give you an estimate for treatment when she sees the vet. If she is a stray and you don't want to assume financial responsibility, you can take her to the local SPCA. They can get her treatment and find her a home. I hope this helps.

This is a question that I would call around local vet clinics to find out as pricing is different at every clinic. At the clinic I work at, I would normally charge $800-1000 for the procedure. There can also be post op complications with healing which can add on additional costs. Tail amputations can be difficult to manage so I would expect additional costs beyond the initial procedure. Sometimes we have to go back in multiple times to repair the tail as this area does not receive the best circulation.

It is difficult to give an estimate for cost without knowing the extent of his injury. Veterinary costs also vary by location. The best thing would be to call some local vets and get an estimate for an examination and x-ray of his injured leg. That would be a good starting point and then the vet can give you an estimate to treat the condition once it is diagnosed.

Sounds like she may have sustained damage to the nerves that go to the rectum and therefore, she can't hold her bowels. This is called fecal incontinence. I cannot tell you what the cost of treatment would be because I don't really know what is going on with her without examining her myself. Depending on what your vet finds on the exam they may want to x-ray her pelvis/hind legs/lower spine area to see if there is any fractures or dislocations. Sometimes the animal appears to be walking normally but there is still something wrong underlying. The way she is sitting in that one photo makes me think there is something wrong in the hind end area.... I would guess you are looking at $150-$200 minimum. I cannot diagnose over the internet nor do I have any idea what vets charge for services in your area so you will just have to get the examination done first and go from there with your vet. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to give you an estimate. The hair loss could be from many things including fleas, skin mites, ringworm, allergies or an endocrine disease. The squinting eye could be a wound, an infection or allergies. I do agree that T'challa needs to be examined. Some clinics like Banfield or VCA will offer free exams to new clients (you will need to get a coupon online and bring it with you). have the vet give you an estimate before moving forward with any treatments. I would have at least $200 available but this is STRICTLY a guess. I hope this helps.

You should have a vet take a look at his tail to determine the best way to treat. It may need to be amputated and your vet can make that decision after an examination. He will also need an antibiotic and pain medications to help treat.

I have a flea problem that started almost a week ago. I am a cat owner. I have been doing my best to work at getting rid of them. It appears that my cat has been biting at the tip of his tail and now there is an open wound. Did not notice right away.
Prince may have caused damage to his tail from the itching with the fleas, or some other reason. Whatever the cause was, now that there is a bleeding wound on his tail, I would recommend that you have it treated by a vet as soon as possible. Tip of the tail wounds can be very hard to heal because there is not much blood flow to help with healing. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatories are often needed to help with healing, as well as special bandages to keep the tail protected. Prince may need to wear an e-collar if he is seen licking the tip of his tail, since licking spreads bacteria and decreases the rate of healing. The cost of veterinary care ranges drastically depending on your area and the clinic chosen. You may be able to call different clinics and ask for the cost of an exam, wound treatment, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories for cats to see what the average cost would be. I have worked in clinics where this treatment could range from $120-300.

If she can’t stand or walk in either back leg and dragging them, then there is likely a spinal cord or pelvis or back injury such as a break. Nerve damage and back injuries can be drvasting and not all fixable even with $4-5000 worth of surgery. If there is a single broken leg it will depend on which bone and how bad. Some can heal with a splint others require surgery surgeries can be expensive from $700-$2000 depending on your area and how bad. A vet can take an X-ray first and give you an estimate along with a prognosis

I'm so sorry this happened to Gibson. Unfortunately, she likely needs just the last portion of her tail amputated, especially if it is broken. I do not think euthanasia is indicated and many veterinarians are capable of doing a tail amputation. I see there are 3 local vets in your area. I would recommend finding one you trust and making an appointment ASAP. She needs pain medication, appropriate antibiotics, and surgical treatment. Luckily it's not a major procedure and she likely could come home right after.

Kitten I took in had a broken tail. This morning we noticed tail was missing from the injured point. No bleeding, and kitten acting fine. Is there a need to be alarmed? What can I do if I really cant afford a hefty vet bill?
It depends on where the amputation occurred and how the tissue looks and if there is exposed bones or nerves. I would recommend having Joe evaluated by the vet to see if it needs treatment or not. They may be able to give you a treatment estimate that will fit in your budget.

I am sorry to hear about Matilda! It is definitely possible to have a broken tail. We can see fractures, and also trauma to the nerves that can affect the tail. I would recommend a visit to your vet. They can examine the tail and likely will want to take an x-ray to check for fractures. They can prescribe pain medication to make her more comfortable and decide the best treatment to help her.
