My dog has red bumps and chews her anus. How to relieve until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Female | spayed | 25 lbs

My dog has red bumps on her anus and I believe she may have impacted anal glands. She is constantly trying to chew at the area. I am taking her to the vet first thing in the morning but is there anything I can do to provide her relief until then?

A warm, moist towel pressed to the area for a few minutes can sometimes help to draw the glands and relieve the discomfort temporarily until you can have her seen and fully assessed. If she is very uncomfortable however hold off as some cases are extremely painful
