My cat's eye is purple and inflamed. Should I take her to the ER vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 years and 6 months old | 10.5 lbs

Hello. My cat has something going on with her eye. I couldn’t get a great picture, but the upper sclera looks purple as if she popped some vessels. There is a little bit of inflammation (pictures) and oddly enough the skin/fur around the eye looks disturbed. Her vet is not open until Monday morning when I would of course take her in. She is eating, bathing, and is acting like herself. Do you think this is something I need to go to the emergency vet for? She is an inside cat and we have 3.

I see what you mean about Nyx's eye, it looks like the conjunctiva in the upper part of the eye is swollen and red. She could have injured her eye or may have an eye infection. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss, so yes I would take her into the ER vet now. I hope this helps.
