Ouch, poor Dax. I would gently clean this with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

It looks like a small wound. 1. If you are able, clip the hair away from the wound using buzzing-type clippers, not scissors or a razor. This is so you can monitor the wound and keep the hair out of the way to help with healing. 2. Disinfect the wound once with peroxide or a first aid chlorhexidine wound soap. Do not continue to use peroxide, or alcohol, as this will delay healing. 3. Apply an antibacterial ointment, such as Neosporin, twice daily. If needed to clean the wound, use a warm wet wash cloth to gently wipe away any dried fluid. 4. Prevent all licking or scratching of the wound by using an e-collar or dog booties or socks. 5. See a vet if your pet experiences prolonged lethargy, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rectal temperature over 103, or if there is creamy discharge or discharge with a foul odor, or there is swelling around the wound.

My dog has been scratching his neck a lot lately and got a big scab on it. Today we noticed that he scratched it off and now it's bleeding. What can we do to help him? He keeps wanting to scratch it and it's getting worse.
It looks like what we call a hot spot or moist dermatitis. These looks really painful. I would have him seen. He will most likely need some antibiotics and some topical medication to help dry this up. They can also give you something for the itching or pain relief. These usually heal pretty quickly once they stop messing with them.

My dog has a scabby wound on his neck due to his brother (my other dog) biting him excessively I know this because it’s okay unless his brothers bitten it, how do I stop him biting it and look after the wound
If they are play fighting a lot, then you may have to keep them separated until the wound can heal. 1. Clip the hair away from the wound using buzzing-type clippers, not scissors or a razor. My dog something that looks like a scab on her neck. It's also red around her neck and it looks like it's spreading. Any idea what it could be?
Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and eventually antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid scratching. I have found several scabs on my dogs neck and body. What are these———————————————— Pictures below, I know it’s not a tick I don’t see any legs and there is hair in the scab
This looks like a scab. He could have gotten this after a little bug bite, a local skin infection, a minor injury from being in the yard, or something else. Since it is so small, I would not be too concerned right now. If it isn't healing, you see discharge, you find more spots, or this spot gets larger, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if he needs any oral meds or other treatment to help it heal. I found this spot under my dogs collar, on his neck… it feels like just a pimple or ingrown hair, but had some yellow scab rub off when I cleaned it… what is this? And how should I treat it? Thank you!
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Smith. He appears to have a small wound, irritation or potentially a growth. I recommend keeping his collar off (if it is safe to do so) so you can monitor to the area. Keep it clean and dry and it should heal within a few days. If this does not happen, then he will need to see his veterinarian. In this case, he would be examined to look for other signs of skin disease. Then the veterinarian will prescribed medication to help him heal. In the meantime, it is not necessary to apply an over-the-counter medication. I hope this information helps!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Without pictures it is difficult to say but my first suspicion would be a bacterial skin infection. I would suggest starting a shampoo such as Duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. If no improvement or the infection worsens, I would get him seen by your vet for further testing and treatment. I would also recommend omega 3 fish oil such as welactin and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
