My new lab puppy has ear bumps. Is it just cartilage or serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

In 2 weeks we are bringing a new lab puppy home. At our visit with the breeder I noticed a couple of small bumps by its ears. Breeder say their vet has told them it is "merely excess ear cartilage and nothing to worry about". That it "would become less noticeable with age/growth". Is this anything we should be concerned about?

It doesn’t look concerning based on the pictures but the puppy should be examined by your vet to determine the exact cause and if treatment is needed. Your vet can do a full otoscopic exam to see if there is anything abnormal.
