My cat has bloody diarrhea. Is it okay to still feed him canned food?

Hi! I noticed my cat’s stool is very soft like diarrhea with blood. I’m concerned about it.Should I still feed him canned food. Can someone please help me.

Poor Milo. This diarrhea could be caused by dietary indiscretion, a stomach illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body among other causes. The concern here is blood in his stool. You can feed him his canned food, but I strongly recommend you take him into a vet now to get this treated. The vet can diagnose what is causing his bloody diarrhea and can treat him. Please take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Milo! Blood in the stool indicated inflammation in the colon. It isn't unusual to see develop with on going diarrhea. Causes of diarrhea in cats: viral or bacterial infections, intestinal parasites, food allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, metabolic conditions. Usually when blood shows up in the stool it indicates the need for antibiotics. If the blood continues I recommend you take Milo to the Vet sooner than Monday. I hope he is still eating and drinking and he isn't vomiting or lethargic. I hope this helps and I wish Milo a speed recovery!

It sounds as Milo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotics course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Milo! He is very cute! It sounds like Milo is suffering from a bad gastro-intestinal problem. Since Milo hasn't eaten for days he needs to see at Veterinarian as soon as possible. Cats can not go many days with out eating, they can get very sick and form fatty liver syndrome. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea in kittens: intestinal parasites, feline leukemia, feline infectious peritonitis, toxin ingestion, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, food allergy or intolerance, ate something that is upsetting his stomach or an intestinal foreign body (something is stuck). At this time the best thing for Milo is veterinary care. I hope this helps and I wish Milo a speedy recovery!

Hello- Sudden diet changes can cause both diarrhea as well as constipation. The blood could indicate significant inflammation in the colon from diarrhea, diet changes, an infection and/or other causes. Anytime there's blood in the stools it is recommended your pet see their veterinarian as some cases require antibiotics and possibly fluids as the diarrhea and inflammation can cause dehydration.

Milo sounds sick if he has bloody diarrhea, and he has to see a vet now. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. This blood indicates that there is some inflammation and bleeding in the rectum. Generally, this is not as concerning as bleeding in the small intestine and I would not consider this an emergency. It is actually not too uncommon to see bleeding with some cases of diarrhea and if Louie is otherwise OK, then you're OK to wait till your vet appointment. I would be more suspicious of parasitism or an infection causing this diarrhea, but a food intolerance is possible. Either way, it's good to feed a bland or sensitive stomach diet at this time. Also, make sure he has plenty of water. Bring a stool sample in to your vet appointment, so they can test it for some common causes. I hope that helps and Louie feels better soon.

I'm sorry to hear that Casper has had so much diarrhea lately! Yes, it is certainly possible that the stress of his visitor coupled with his ingestion of the other cat's food and treats could have caused some gastroenteritis (inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract), which led to diarrhea. A bit of blood can occur in the stool as a result of irritation to the colon. If Casper is still eating, drinking and acting relatively normally, you can try a home remedy. Start by withholding food for 24 hours, then offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food with the boiled chicken over another 5-7 days. If at any point Casper becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, has profuse bloody diarrhea, or stops eating, he will need to take a trip to the vet for further evaluation. It can be due to inflammation from the diet change or an intestinal infection. Other internal diseases such as pancreatitis can cause this signs as well. Garfield seems to be suffering from a severe gastrointestinal condition, i do not recommend to stop feeding him, this can do more harm than good in cats, you need to take him to the vet as soon as you can in order to get treated, he will probably need an antibiotic course , a special prescription food and some meds to stop the diarrhea.
