My dog's leg looks swollen after stitches. Is this normal for new stitches?

my dog cut it self and i took my dog to the vet and had the stiches put and they vet said to look at leg to see if it swells does it look swollen for less than 4 hour old stiches.

Poor Blue. It's a bit hard to see in the picture, but it may be swollen. It may be best to take her back into the vet now to get it checked out. Give your vet a call to let them know you have some concerns about her leg.

This does look quite swollen and would be worthwhile having it rechecked and a small sample drawing to rule out infection and to determine if any additional treatment is required. It can occasionally require revision and restitching to close the pocket of swelling if persistent as the skin becomes stretched

My dog had a mass removed on his leg. The vet said to watch for swelling. Is this level of swelling normal? If not, can it wait til morning?
That is excessive. I see there is a bandage--I do not know what is under that but it needs to be removed to relieve the swelling of the toes. Just make sure he does not lick the incision after that gets removed and if it is open then you may need to take him to a ER tonight to have a new wrap applied

My dog stepped on a nail which was buried about 2 inches into his leg. A vet removed it after taking xrays. My dog was prescribed cephalexyn 500mg, and tramadol 50mg. His leg is starting to swell. Is this normal?
There could be some swelling from inflammation but it would be a good idea to have your vet rechecked the leg to make sure there is not an infection. If so, your vet may need to add or change antibiotics. Your vet could also prescribe an anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling.

My 10yo boxer/red heeler mix just had a debulking surgery done on a hip mass and is now unable to use the front leg that was used for the IV. It appears to be slightly swollen and stays curled. When she tries to walk she's unable to put any weight on
I would recommend taking her back to the vet right away to be checked out. She could have laid on the leg in the funny way during surgery and have some temporary nerve damage or could have pain from an infection related to the IV that is making her not want to walk on it. In any case, that's not normal and her vet can help figure out what needs to occur next.

My dog had pyometra and had surgery 8 days ago...a part of the incision is swollen ...is that normal?
It would be good to see a picture of her incision to see if it's normal or not, but I can say that swelling can be a sign of infection. It would be best to have her checked out by a vet, as if her incision is swollen, she will need antibiotics. I would take her into a vet in the morning. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I can see the swelling from the pictures you posted. It appears the swelling goes form the foot all the way to the knee. I see that you live in an area where snake bite is possible. I would check thoroughly for any punctures along the entire leg and see if Diamond is painful in any particular area. If not, other causes of swelling like this could include infection, allergic reaction, trauma, cancer, among others. Sometimes swelling in an entire limb can be caused by decreased lymphatic flow - this can be caused by damage to lymph nodes or a structure under the skin or inside the body that is impinging on the lymph flow. I have also seen swelling like this with a flare-up of a mast cell tumor elsewhere on the body. I agree with your vet; if the medications prescribed to not make a difference, additional diagnostics are warranted. They may include bloodwork, abdominal x-rays, tick testing, or sampling of any small masses found.

This looks like a severe bite wound and it would need to be examined by a veterinarian. This wound needs to be cleaned and disinfected and your dog will need pain medicine and antibiotics, Please take Tyson to a veterinarian for wound care. The swelling may be a sign of a fracture or infection.

It sounds like Blue has a horrible infection in his joint, and he has to see a vet immediately. This will be painful for him, and it is possible it could be treated. Please take him into a vet right away.

My dogs leg is swollen around the knee joint on her back left leg. The front looks the most inflamed but it’s all the way down her paw. She isn’t reacting to me touching it at all but wouldn’t jump up onto the bed and is clearly uncomfortable.
Wow, Demi's leg is quite swollen in the pictures! She could have broken a bone, torn a ligament or muscle, or have a severe infection in the leg. Based on the amount of swelling, this is an emergency and she needs to see a vet now. please take her into one immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
