My puppy ate a toy, is vomiting, and can't poop. Is it a blockage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Vizsla | Male | neutered | 6 months and 19 days old | 60 lbs

My 6 month old viszla threw up 3 times today and a couple times last night. I think he ate part of a toy. He eats rocks and wood too, we are trying to stop this behavior. Now he won't eat. He was trying to go poop but couldn't. He is drinking water and going pee, sleeping and lightly playing. Will it take a couple days for it to pass or for him to feel better? What should I do?

I'm quite concerned that if Vinny has a habit of eating things he should not, if he did eat this toy, it's causing a blockage in his intestines. That would cause him to vomit, not eat, and not be able to poop. If he does have an intestinal blockage, that is a medical emergency as it is fatal without treatment. I cannot say he will be ok without seeing him in person, so the best thing for you to do is take him into a vet immediately to get checked out and have x-rays done. Please take him into a vet now. Best of luck.
