Dog threw up antibiotic, then ate it. Is the dose still effective?

Hello my dog is on an antibiotic for kennel cough. I gave him his second dose at 12am. He shortly after threw up (around 12:20am) I saw the pills in the white foam he threw up and before I could get to him he ate his throw up. Will this dose still be affective?

Because Pesci threw it up not long after taking it, yes it will still be effective. Antibiotics can cause upset stomachs, so I would give him his pills with some food such as boiled white meat chicken (no skin or bones), cheese, or peanut butter. I hope this helps.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Binnie. Because he threw up two hours after you gave him the medication, the majority of the medication should have been absorbed. I'd give him his normal dose tomorrow, but if he vomits again after that, give his vet a call. I hope this helps.

My dog puked after liquid dewormer (puking due to car sickness) I’m worried the dewormer wasn’t affective??
If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. My 5lb dog ate my 75lb dogs antibiotic, Ampicillin 250MG. He spit it out and my little dog snagged it and ran, hid and ate it. Will he be okay? Or what are the next steps I should take?
Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Drontal Plus is extremely effective for treating tapeworms. However, I am concerned that if he vomited soon after giving the medication, there is a chance it did not absorb. I recommend that you call your veterinarian for a second dose - it will be safe to re-dose - just to be on the safe side! Next time give it at meal time so there is a lot of food in his stomach as this makes it less likely he will vomit the pill.

It would be helpful to know the exact antibiotic and amount he ingested but if he is otherwise acting normal then you could withhold food for the day and see if the vomiting stops. If so, feed him a bland intestinal diet and add a probiotic to his food, Fortiflora or Proviable, and monitor him. If the vomiting continues and/or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. He may need some fluids to prevent dehydration and an anti-vomiting medications. Your vet may also want to run blood work to check his organ function, depending on the amount and antibiotic that he ingested.

Antibiotic was taken and wasn't swallowed found in cheek and was fully absorbed/disloved. Left green color. It's 500mg and was administered with antihistamines. Both prescribed by vet today
Just continue with the prescribed medications on the regular schedule. The green will go away soon. Put the pills in a piece of meat, cheese or peanut butter to make sure he swallows them. A side effect of antibiotics can be vomiting due to an upset stomach, and I would try feeding Phantom a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If this doesn't help with the vomiting, I would contact your vet first thing in the morning to let them know he's been vomiting.

My dog has just finished taking antibiotics for a lump he had on his neck, which is now gone, and he has been puking for the past 3 nights around 4 am. It's not just bile there is some of his food in it too. what's wrong with him?
Poor Mac! I recommend to call his veterinarian who may ask to see him again or may recommend medications. It possible the antibiotic has upset his tummy but it’s also possible something else is going on. You can switch his diet to boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice for the next few days. If he continues to be sick, he should see his veterinarian. Hello. This is twice the normal dude for him, but this is a very safe antibiotic with very low chance of toxicity. I doubt that Skipper will suffer any side effects, but to guard against nausea...try to feed him a little to reduce the chance that he could vomit . Spock was given Doxycycline at 6:45 am with food. We played a lot between then and 8:15 am. At 8:15 he threw up his food. Didn't see antibiotic. But the vet won't answer I left a message but I'm unsure what to do. I know it can make dogs nauseous. H
Yes in two hours the tablet should have been absorbed and dissolved already. This medication must be given with food and water as well as can cause oesophageal inflammation. I would suggest to wait until next dosage and I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
