My puppy ate sticks, is lethargic, hot, and throwing up. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 15 days old | 40 lbs

My 11-month-old puppy ate sticks and threw up the sticks and grass yesterday. Today she is hot to the touch and she is lethargic and can't keep anything down food or water should I continue to try to feed her? It may take a few days for me to get to the vet unfortunately what can I do to ease her discomfort if she continues to throw up should I continue to try to give her food and water I'm very worried she's very hot to the touch and very lethargic.

Hi, you need to have Arya checked over sooner than in a couple of days as she might deteriorate to the point of not being able to get better. I would not feed her and just offer small amounts of water little and often every half an hour and book an appointment to get her checked over.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Based on your description, I would highly recommend getting arya in to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I am concerned thay she is going to become very dehydrated if ahe hasn't already. I would recommend having her tested for parvo virus given her age, even if she is fully vaccinated. Blood work would also be recommended along with abdominal x-rays. She may also have pancreatitis from eating something she shouldn't have eaten. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
