Pet's info: Dog | Keeshond | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 50 lbs
Hello. Ten year old Keeshond presenting with recurring bacterial infections with hyperpigmentation around the groin and chest areas. Also has occasional seizures, four in the last year lasting less than 5 minutes. Bloodwork flagged T4 low normal at 17 mmo/l. Full panel confirmed and also flagged T3 low at 0.75 mmo/l. Report found low T3 of "questionable significance". Before allergy testing would you try bringing thyroid levels into normal range? Have read symptoms can = hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Hello. Yes, I would definitely put Kayo on thyroid replacement medication first. As her thyroid levels normalize, her skin should improve & the need for allergy testing will no longer be necessary. New allergies in a 10 year old dog is unusual, so my guess her low thyroid levels are more responsible for her symptoms than anything else. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
