Why is my cat's eye smaller with yellow discharge and nose stain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 7 lbs

Hello My cat has his left eye a kind of smaller, with secretion, which is staying under the skin and staining his nose area in yellow color. He seems to be fine otherwise but these been going on for 3 days and does not diminish. I’m concerned. I washed but didn’t come out because it’s liquid inside. What should I do? I’ve attached 2 photos of him sick and a normal photo so you can compare. Thank you so much Márcia

Hello. This could be any number of things such as a flare up of a herpes virus very common in cats, or he has as infection, possibly from a small scratch on his cornea, or even a bit on conjunctivitis. Wil should see his veterinarian to make sure there is nothing more serious with the eye, & usually, with the proper treatments & medications, eyes clear up very nicely. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
