Why is my dog acting unlike himself, nervous, and avoiding me?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 140 lbs

My 4 year shepherd mix isn’t acting like himself. We offered him a treat and he didn’t react just laid there, we got his leash and was going to take him to the park (which he loves) and he didn’t get excited he actually seem nervous or stressed. And when I try to let him or lay with him (he’s usually a big cuddler) he’ll get up and move away and seem nervous again. It’s almost like he’s on edge like we said he’s going to the vet and he’s alert (like he’s expecting us to force him into something)

It could be Loxely isn't feeling well or may be in pain. You can see behavior changes in dogs when they are sick or painful. I would keep an eye on him for the next 24-48 hours. If this behavior continues over this time, then I would have him seen by a vet. Should he develop other symptoms such as limping, severe lethargy, vomiting, or a loss of appetite, I would take him into a vet right away. I hope this helps!
