Is undescended testicle surgery safe for my puppy? Is it needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 12 days old | 10 lbs

I am scared to death to do chriptoyd surgery to my 9 months old puppy, I read that the doctors can damage anything inside sometimes they do not find the testicle in the abdomen and damage other organs. I want to know how long he can live without surgery, may be it is not mandatory at all, may be he can live without it? I am so worried I cry all day long because I am afraid to give him to the vet, I feel they can kill him

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. If you are nervous regarding the procedure, then I recommend having it performed by a board certified surgeon. This will greatly reduce the risk of a surgical complication. If the testicle is left in the abdomen, it will likely grow a cancerous tumor over time. So in most cases it is advised to have it removed prior to this happening. I hope this information helps!
